Hello all, it’s been quite some time since I’ve checked in on the blog. In that time, there’s been some changes to the crew list. For the foreseeable future this will be a singlehanded sailing blog. Sometimes, changes are necessary in life and what may seem like negative changes can ultimately end up being the best possible outcome.
The dream is still alive, though! I’ll continue the work (and play) on the Hunter 25 and post updates. There will be a liveaboard boat and lifestyle in the future.
I’ll finish this quick post with a little verse from a David Bowie song I thought of a couple days ago when I was doing some reflecting…
Every time I thought I’d got it made, it seemed the taste was not so sweet. Just gonna have to be a different man. Time may change me, but I can’t trace time.
And one more for good measure. 😉
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11
Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and may peace be with you,
Mike
Dear Mike. Merry Xmas to you. I am soooooooo sorry and sad to hear this. When I went through this over 5 years ago, a friend told me this: “Surrender to what is. Let go of what was. Have faith in what will be”. Hard to do, but maybe a little help. If you need anything… let me know. Kosta
Thank you Kosta! Very good words from your friend. I really like those. I have surrendered and let go. Faith is the easy part, brother!
I appreciate your words and look forward to meeting you out there one day.
Mike
Sorry for your situation Mike, but I I may try to add some comfort here, your profession has a higher rate of this sort than most. The extraordinary stress you have at work leaches through to home life no matter how good or hard you try separate work and home. (ahem…the wife is a counselor, not me.). Her brother is a cop in Louisiana and just announced the same…. try and keep the positive attitude.
Thanks Allan. Unfortunately, you’re right. Amy was my second wife and we actually divorced more than two years ago. After some time, we decided to give reconciliation a go. This was the end of that reconciliation attempt.
Sorry about your brother in law, too.
I’m definitely keeping the positive attitude, no worries on that front. There’s plenty of life left for me to experience!
Mike
Hang on to the feeling of that moment when you cut the engine and feel the sails pull you along. It is when things stop being forced and you fall into step with something powerful. That moment (plus surfing Yachtworld) helps keep me from getting too frustrated or down from life’s bumps and bangs.
Thanks Stan. Love the reference about stopping the force of the motor and feeling the sails pulling! Great stuff. Might add that to my little list of sailing quotes if you don’t mind?
Take it – it is a moment shared by all sailors. Also, if you ever have the time and desire, plan to drop down to Canyon Lake. We’ll run up and down the lake in Wee Bit and then head to Mamacita’s for recovery enchiladas. We have tons of room if you need a place to crash before heading back up to the great white north.
Might just take you up on that sometime! Thanks!
Mike – So glad you’re keeping the dream alive!! We hope you had a very merry christmas and Happy New Year!!

Mike I’m so sorry to hear this but we will be sending good kharma your way for the future. Hope to see you out there and if there is anything we can help you with info-wise please let us know.

The people that want to be in your life will prove themselves true! Some things are worth waiting for, so in the mean time enjoy your passion of sailing!
Very good words, Michelle! Thanks so much!
