It’s been several weeks since I installed it, but figured I’d post a couple pics of my new tiller.
As you might remember, back in September, when Scott and I went out for a sail, the tiller broke [again]. The repair job that I had completed last year held just fine….it broke in a different place. To me, that’s a sign that it’s time to simply replace it. Pretty easy job, really. Just buy it, then install it!
Ain’t she pretty!? ๐
I’ve had the boat out a couple times since installing the new tiller. You know how when you were a kid and got brand new shoes and thought you could run faster? Well, I think my boat may be faster now! Haha.
It is super pretty and I can guess looks even better in person.
Way to go Mike.
Thanks Kevin!
Don’t forget to slap a cover on it when you aren’t using it. The Texas sun will eat the finish very quickly. We went through a long round of sanding and refinishing on ours even though we do keep it covered.
Oh yeah, it’s definitely got a Sunbrella cover on it.
So you had to sand and refinish even with a cover? Why’s that? I thought the covers were supposed to prevent deterioration.
Mike
I’ve kept a cover on it, but decades of age and poor treatment from previous owners led to a price to be paid.
Ahhh yes! That’s why the old tiller that I previously repaired broke again. Previous owner didn’t have a cover on it.
Hey Stan. Just FYI, I’m still unable to post comments on your blog. I just read the one where you updated your wiring. That’s something I definitely need to do as well. I’ve got the same nest of wires!
I don’t know what is up on the comments for my blog. That is kind of frustrating, I’ll have to sit down and wrestle through it.
I snagged Don Casey’s book Sailboat Electrics Simplified. It has been a useful guide. The other incredible resource is http://www.pbase.com/mainecruising/boat_projects. This guy has some great info on all kinds of boat stuff. I order my butyl tabpe from him – magical stuff.
Man, that’s an awesome collection of advice on that site! I’m gonna save that in my favorites.
And yep, you’re right about butyl. I learned the magic of that stuff a couple years ago. I ALWAYS use it!
