Figure Eight Knot
Category: Stopper knot
How to tie:
- Create a loop and add an extra twist of the loop.
- Push the working end through the extra twisted loop.
- Gently pull until tight.
This is a popular stopper knot seen in the end of most jib and main sheets. Use it also on any rope that passes through a block or fitting from which it must not escape.
Now that’s the stopper knot we used in every one of our ASA sailing lessons…supposed to be easier to untie than the overhand.
Mike,
I am digging your knot of the week section.
Sad to admit this as a sailor but I only know 4 knots and find away to use one of them when ever I need to lash something down or tie off something.
Keep ’em coming.
Fair winds,
Jesse
Thanks Jesse, I appreciate it! This is going to help me a lot, too, in preparing myself for the future.
