The Catalina 25 I purchased already has a name, Jazzmin. The prior owner removed the name decals from the hull because they were fading and torn, but the outline of the name is still there. I’m thinking I should put the name on something and put inside the boat at least. Remember this post I wrote about superstitions when it comes to boat names? Or this one?
Here’s a few photos of Jazzmin the day after I bought her.
The Catalina 25 has a modern, but conservative design, resulting in a boat that continues to have a relatively modern appearance, even though it was built in the late 1970’s.
It’s purpose was that of a racer/cruiser for inland lakes and coastal waters. She is well suited to her purpose in terms of design and build quality although some owners have sailed their Catalina 25s through the Caribbean, to South America, and even to Hawaii. The Catalina 25 was one of the most successful and longest running production boats ever built, and continues to have a strong following and interest.
A standard rig and a tall rig were offered. To provide increased sail area, the tall rig mast is approximately two feet taller than the standard and the boom is attached to the mast approximately one foot lower than the standard.
Good looking boat.
Thanks Greg! That’s a pretty interesting read! I’m actually ok with the name Jazzmin. Kinda works with my love of music anyway.
The vinyl lettering you see on the side in that photo has been removed. The shadow/outline is still there though. Any idea how I could get them recreated?
Yeah, I thought it was a good name for you/her as well. As far as the lettering, I don’t know. I’ve heard any sign shop should be able to do vinyl easily. I’m getting mine painted on (gilded, whatever), and varnished over. So, I never looked into it any more than a few fellas telling me it was no big deal to hit any old sign shop.
Congrats! We had a fleet of two boats for a while when we moved from the Mac 25 to our current Cal 2-27. I told the guys at work they could call me Commodore until I sold the little boat. They didn’t get it.
We’ve been sailing up a storm. Added new (to us) self-tailing winches – they are the bomb. We were out Saturday morning and had a good sail. Then we fired up the air-conditioning and let the crazies and drunks have the lake for the afternoon while we took a lazy nap.
Canyon Lake has been over full for a bit. It almost got to the point that the road to the marina was under water again. This weekend the level dropped enough that some of the mooring balls actually started popping up again.
That’s awesome Stan! I’d consider self-tailing winches. I’d have to get used to them though; the couple times I’ve used them on other’s boats I didn’t get the hang of them.
Joe Pool Lake is almost always a full lake, but it’s had problems with over-full in the recent past as well.
Love the comment about being called Commodore. I might steal that. 🙂
