Well, after two weekends of lessons and some studying the night before, I finally took the ASA-101 Certification test. The tests were graded on the spot, so thankfully I didn’t have to wait days or weeks for the results. The written portion of the test was 100 questions, which I scored a 99 on! The only question I missed had to do with the required lighting a sailboat has to display at night while under power….oops.

I scored a double-reward for my efforts…the sailing school owner gave me a logbook [with the appropriate sections signed] so my training can be documented. Since I’m certified now, I’m eligible to take part in the “alumni sail” at the yacht club every Sunday afternoon. Three hours on a J-22 for only $20! It’s an hour drive there, but the price simply cannot be beat. I checked another club that was closer and they rent their J-22’s for $125 per hour!

A nice addition, though, was when I was presented with a nice congratulations card and a cake personalized with a sailboat!  🙂
